The world’s largest rubber duck will be coming to Brockville as part the city’s Rails to Trails festival in August.

The 61-foot floating duck (official slogan: “The world is her bathtub”) is on a tour of select Ontario communities this summer and it will appear in Brockville from August 10-13.

The giant duck will part of the city’s celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.

Aside from the big bird, the Ontario 150 Tour’s arrival for the city’s Rails to Trails festival will feature an early 20th-century traveling carnival, called the Carnivàle Lune Bleue, and it will see the official opening of Canada’s First Railway Tunnel following its restoration.

Other entertaining cultural programming will include Rhythm of the Nation, an interactive dance and musical performance centered around nationally renowned street artist DJ Creeasian, as well as The West Coast Lumberjack Show.

Celebrate Ontario this week announced that Brockville will receive $50,000 to stage the festival. That money comes on top of $70,000 announced last month from the Ontario 150 funding, bringing the total to $120,000.

“This is wonderful news for the city”, Lesley White, Brockville’s manager of strategic initiatives, said in a statement.

“We’re very excited about the festival. It will be a true celebration with something for everyone to enjoy”. The waterfront festival will coincide with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Brockville RibFest over the same four days. Brockville is one of six Ontario communities included in the Ontario 150 Tour, which is being held to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. The Ontario 150 Tour is also to make stops in Toronto, Sault Ste. Marie, Midland, and Amherstburg.
